AI 시대, 책임경영의 새로운 기준

 

오늘날 기업과 공공기관을 둘러싼 환경은 그 어느 때보다 빠르게 변화하고 있습니다. 인공지능(AI)의 확산, 디지털 전환, 기후변화 대응, 글로벌 공급망 재편, 사이버 보안, 인권 보호, 윤리경영, 그리고 공공가치와 사회적 가치에 대한 요구는 조직의 운영 방식뿐 아니라 경쟁력을 평가하는 기준까지 근본적으로 변화시키고 있습니다.

 

이제 조직의 경쟁력은 단기적인 재무성과나 기존 ESG(Environmental, Social, Governance) 평가만으로 충분히 설명될 수 없습니다. 지속가능한 성장 역량, 미래 경쟁력, 혁신역량, 장기 가치창출, 비재무 리스크 관리, 공공가치 및 사회적 가치까지 함께 고려할 수 있는 새로운 평가체계가 요구되고 있습니다.

 

이러한 시대적 변화는 책임경영을 바라보는 새로운 기준을 필요로 하고 있으며, 바로 그 요구가 SEC(Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission)의 출발점이 되었습니다.

 

 

SEC의 역할과 사명

 

SEC는 기존 ESG 평가를 대체하기 위해 설립된 기관이 아닙니다.

 

SEC는 ESG의 기본 철학을 존중합니다. 그러나 오늘날 조직의 지속가능성과 미래 경쟁력을 ESG만으로 모두 설명하기에는 분명한 한계가 있다는 점에도 주목했습니다.

 

미래 경쟁력은 어떻게 평가할 것인가.

 

혁신역량은 어떤 기준으로 측정할 것인가.

 

장기 가치창출 능력은 어떻게 객관적으로 평가할 것인가.

 

공공가치와 사회적 가치는 어떤 체계로 평가할 것인가.

 

이러한 질문에 답하기 위해 SEC는 WF책임경영지수(WF Sustainable Responsibility Index, WFSRI)를 독자적으로 개발하였습니다.

 

WFSRI는 단순한 평가지수가 아닙니다.

 

기업과 공공기관의 책임경영을 객관적이고 일관성 있게 평가하기 위한 공식 책임경영 평가체계(Official Responsible Management Evaluation Framework)입니다.

 

바로 이러한 독자적인 평가체계를 기반으로 SEC는 ESG를 포함하여 미래 경쟁력, 혁신역량, 장기 가치창출, 비재무 리스크 관리, 공공가치 및 사회적 가치까지 종합적으로 평가하고 있습니다.

 

이것이 기존 ESG 평가와 SEC 책임경영 평가의 본질적인 차이입니다.

 

 

WFSRI의 철학과 가치

 

WF책임경영지수(WFSRI)는 기존 ESG를 대체하기 위해 개발된 평가체계가 아닙니다.

 

WFSRI는 ESG의 기본 철학을 포함하여 ESG만으로는 충분히 설명하기 어려운 책임경영 영역을 종합적으로 평가하기 위해 개발된 차세대 책임경영 평가체계입니다.

WFSRI는 단순한 평가지수가 아니라 책임경영을 바라보는 새로운 기준이며, SEC 책임경영 평가체계의 중심축입니다.

 

 

백서의 목적과 역할

 

본 백서는 WF책임경영지수(WFSRI)의 개발 배경과 평가철학, 공식 책임경영 평가체계, 평가방법론, 평가기준, 핵심가치지표(Core Value Indicators, CVI), 활용체계를 종합적으로 설명하는 SEC의 공식 기준문서(Official Reference Document)입니다.

 

또한 기업, 공공기관, 연구기관, 정책입안자, 투자자 및 다양한 이해관계자가 책임경영을 보다 체계적으로 이해하고 실천할 수 있도록 지원하는 WFSRI의 공식 해설서(Official Reference Guide)이자 연구자료로 활용됩니다.

FOREWORD

 

A New Standard for Responsible Management in the Age of AI

 

 

The environment surrounding corporations and public institutions is changing more rapidly than ever before. The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital transformation, climate action, global supply chain restructuring, cybersecurity, human rights, ethical governance, and growing expectations for public and social value are fundamentally reshaping not only how organizations operate, but also the standards by which their competitiveness is evaluated.

 

Today, organizational competitiveness can no longer be fully explained by short-term financial performance or conventional Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) assessments alone. Sustainable growth capability, future competitiveness, innovation capability, long-term value creation, non-financial risk management, public value, and social value have all become essential elements in evaluating organizational excellence.

 

This transformation calls for a new standard for Responsible Management, and it is this very need that gave rise to the Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission (SEC).

 

 

The Role and Mission of SEC

 

SEC was not established to replace conventional ESG evaluations.

 

SEC fully recognizes and respects the fundamental philosophy of ESG. At the same time, it recognizes that ESG alone can no longer provide a comprehensive assessment of an organization's long-term competitiveness and sustainable development.

 

How should future competitiveness be evaluated?

 

How can innovation capability be measured objectively?

 

How should long-term value creation be assessed?

 

How can public value and social value be evaluated within a consistent and reliable framework?

 

To answer these questions, SEC independently developed the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI).

 

WFSRI is far more than an evaluation index.

 

It is SEC's Official Responsible Management Evaluation Framework, developed to provide objective, consistent, and comprehensive evaluations of Responsible Management across corporations and public institutions.

 

It is precisely because of this independently developed framework that SEC is able to evaluate not only ESG, but also Future Competitiveness, Innovation Capability, Long-Term Value Creation, Non-Financial Risk Management, Public Value, and Social Value within a single integrated evaluation system.

 

This is the fundamental distinction between conventional ESG assessments and SEC's Responsible Management Evaluation.

 

 

The Philosophy and Value of the WFSRI

 

The WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) was not developed to replace ESG.

 

Rather, it was designed to incorporate the fundamental philosophy of ESG while extending the evaluation framework to areas of Responsible Management that conventional ESG alone cannot fully assess.

 

Accordingly, WFSRI evaluates organizations through a comprehensive framework centered on Sustainability, Responsible Management, Non-Financial Risk Management, Innovation Capability, and Long-Term Value Creation, providing an integrated assessment of both current organizational performance and future competitiveness.

 

In addition, WFSRI incorporates emerging dimensions of Responsible Management—including Public Value, Social Value, Community Value, Protection of Future Generations, Digital Ethics, and Innovation Value—to deliver a more comprehensive, forward-looking, and strategically relevant evaluation framework.

 

WFSRI is therefore not merely an evaluation index.

 

It represents a new standard for Responsible Management and serves as the cornerstone of the SEC Framework.

 

Purpose of This White Paper

 

This White Paper is the official reference document of SEC, providing a comprehensive explanation of the development background of the WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI), its evaluation philosophy, Official Responsible Management Evaluation Framework, evaluation methodology, evaluation criteria, Core Value Indicators (CVI), and practical applications.

 

It also serves as the Official Reference Guide to WFSRI, supporting corporations, public institutions, researchers, policymakers, investors, and other stakeholders in understanding and implementing Responsible Management in a systematic and practical manner.

 

 

Evaluation as a Foundation for Growth

 

SEC does not regard evaluation as a mechanism for ranking organizations.

 

Evaluation should objectively assess an organization's current capabilities while providing meaningful guidance for future growth and continuous improvement.

 

The WFSRI goes beyond measuring an organization's current level of Responsible Management. It also evaluates sustainable growth capability, future competitiveness, innovation capability, and long-term value creation potential, thereby supporting continuous improvement and innovation through a development-oriented Responsible Management Evaluation Framework.

 

SEC firmly believes that evaluation should become the foundation upon which organizations build sustainable growth and long-term competitiveness.

SEC is able to evaluate beyond conventional ESG because it operates the independently developed WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) as its Official Responsible Management Evaluation Framework.

 

Looking ahead, SEC will continue to advance Responsible Management by strengthening sustainable growth, future competitiveness, long-term value creation, and public trust through the continued development and application of the WFSRI.
